Amazing tamarind for diabetes and overall health

Sweet tamarind is a fruit that help lower blood sugar and protectshealth amazingly, including heart health, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, inflammation related diseases, arthritis, immunity, IBS, peptic ulcer, osteoporosis and weight loss.

A health professional’s personal experience with coconut oil

The following is quoted from the book ” Virgin Coconut Oil: Nature’s Miracle Medicine” by Bruce Fife, ND

I am a health professional and therefore not surprisingly I was abashed when I would see books about coconut oil. Until my own health problems begin. My thyroid levels were swinging around and not really high enough to be treated by most allopathic doctors.
I felt awful. My hair was falling out, my skin was so dry.  It itched and cracked. My cholesterol was up and so was my weight, ever so slowly with every passing month.
In addition My co workers were amazed at how I could function when I am constantly sick and on antibiotics. I was a mess at the fairly young age.
I did some of my own research and kept coming up with coconut oil. Then I found out your website (Coconut Research Centre ) and became more convinced as I accessed the journals presented.  I felt like what was I to lose ? 
Here is what happened after taking coconut oil for several months 
1. Weight has stopped increasing, it is starting to drop because I know longer crave sweets or simple carbs and have massive surge of energy which allows me to be more active.
2. cholesterol Dropped HDL [the good cholesterol] went way up (from 30 to almost 60)
3. my skin is beautiful I was having rosacea, now it is smooth and clear.  my legs feel as if I am a teenager they are so smooth. I even put coconut all around my eyes as a moisturiser. 
I love feeling my legs it is almost as if I have made  a discovery.  I cannot believe at my age my skin can be so soft and supple.

The proof is in the fact that my daughter skin is beautiful and flawless now , no itchy bumps, just beautiful baby skin. Even though she doesn’t like the taste of Coconut oil in her food she will eat it when I remind her of her skin problems.( she also is a very healthy weight).

The only sad part is, when I mentioned this to my colleagues or friends, I still get glazed over looks of disinterest and disbelief or outright gasps of horror with a refusal to listen to anymore of it.

A Natural therapy for Shingles

I would like to introduce to you a folklore natural  therapy for shingles which is to apply a mung bean paste to the affected area and could relieve shingles overnight.

I was lucky to know a folk medicine when I was young. My mother applied mung bean paste on the shingle affected area. She bandaged it with a strip of cotton cloth around my trunk. Over the night, the shingle area dried out, no more itch or pain. And I could remove the bandage, and another day, it was healed.

About 30 years later, my niece told me that her mother ( my eldest sister) had shingles, had been using prescribed  medicine and continued being miserable with pain and itch, with no prospect of healing. I told her the simple folk medicine recipe.  Two days later, she called to tell me that her mother’s shingles had gone thanks to the mung bean paste.

The original formula is to chew raw mung beans ( skin on) into a paste and cover the paste over the shingles and use a bandage to keep the paste in place securely overnight. That was how I did it and how my niece did it for her mom.

But I think that way is not safe or hygienic ( may break your teeth) or practical  and we can do it better in the following way:

We can use split or whole mung beans with skin on.

– in case there is no bean grinder, soak a handful of raw mung bean for a few hours until they are soft enough to be blended into paste with a blender and a little added water


– grind a handful of raw mung beans ( with skin) into powder, mix it with water into paste to use.

I hope saliva is not an essential ingredient in this folk medicine.

I told this folklore natural therapy  to some of my friends, but I can’t blame them for not using it because it is too simple and perhaps too unscientific for them to believe. It is too risky without scientific backing. To be honest shingles do disappear thanks to prescription medicine but many have to suffer post herpetic neuralgia pain for quite a while. It is not unbearable but it is better without it.

I don’t know if this folk remedy is effective for every one. But as my sister used it while using prescription medicine at the same time, I think it may be worth trying while still using prescription medicine with peace of mind.

Gut Health

Having healthy gut will help the body prevent and heal many chronic diseases such as allergies, asthma, thyroid disorders, ulcerative colitis, arthritis, diabetes, heart disease, oesophageal cancer, colorectal cancer, anxiety, depression, eczema, psoriasis, autoimmune diseases. The gut can not perform properly its function when it leaks and its micro biota is in disequilibrium. The cause is usually due to – not being breastfed at birth – unhealthy diet – bad eating habit – physical , emotional and mental stress and – frequent use of antibiotics . Using bovine colostrum, black cumin seed oil, fermented foods, changing diet and eating habit and changing lifestyle can help restore and protect our gut health and free us from many chronic diseases including those mentioned above.

Digestive tract (gut) function in brief

The gut’s primary function is to make suitable nutrients from foods and drink we consume (digestion), feed them into blood stream (absorption of nutrients), prevent unwanted matters from entering the blood and eliminate undigested matters ( excretion). 90% of digestion and absorption is performed in the small intestine. The lining of the healthy intestine is one cell thick with tight junctions to allow only appropriate nutrients into the blood while keeping large molecules out. The digestive system needs both healthy gut and good gut flora (micro biota) to work effectively. The gut microbiome contains tens of trillions micro organisms (virus and bacteria) which communicate with the brain. It has at least 1000 kinds of micro-organisms with more than 3 million genes (150 times more than human genes). It weighs in total up to 2 kilos. Most microorganisms in the gut are friendly and not harmful to our body. A third of our microbiome are the same while 2 thirds are particular or unique to each person. Gut bacteria are essential for our body with many important roles including:

• Helping to produce hormones, like serotonin, for example

• Aiding in the extraction of energy (calories) and nutrients, including vitamins, minerals, amino acids, fatty acids and antioxidants

• Managing our appetite and body weight

• Digesting fiber which helps form stool

• Controlling our moods, motivation and cognitive health

• Preventing us from catching colds and viruses

• Helping repair damaged tissues and injuries.

A healthy gut has more friendly bacteria than bad bacteria. When there are more bad bacteria than good bacteria, gut health is in trouble. This condition of “dysbiosis” often happens after a course of antibiotics. Research shows that after a week of antibiotics treatment it takes up to a year to restore normal gut micro biota. The majority of germs live in the large intestine while the small intestine is usually sterile. But when the germs sneak up into the small intestine and proliferate there, the gut microbiota becomes unhealthy creating a condition called “Small Intestine Bacteria Overgrowth” (SIBO), one of the main causes of IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome) and can contribute to leak gut condition.

Leaky gut in adults

When the lining of the intestine is damaged or leaks, the tight junctions become loose allowing toxins and large molecules to enter the blood stream. The body’s organs are invaded. The immune system is mobilised to fight back. The battle is raging all over the body, causing casualties, weakening and damaging its organs. Inflammation spreads all over the body, antihistamines are sent out. All sort of abnormal symptoms surface, especially skin and respiratory allergies.

Certain incidents can cause leaky gut. The first and most common incident happens when we eat food containing gluten, a protein in wheat , barley , rye , spelt, flour, farina, couscous. Gluten increases the protein zonulin, a substance that loosens intestinal tight junctions.

The second is when in the gut we have undigested food, harmful food. Eating on the go, or in a rush does not give enough time for the food to be digested. The result is intestinal inflammation. Inflammation is like fire. It starts burning and causing damage to intestinal tight junctions causing leaky gut.. Undigested food particles, bacteria, yeast and things like that go into the blood. All of the body including the brain, inflammation is activated to resist aggression.

The immune system normally can heal gut damages during sleep if the condition is limited. However if we keep consuming gluten food, or frequently eating in a hurry and do not give enough time (at least 12 hours) for the digestion to rest, the immune system can not heal daily gut damage. Thirdly, when we have mental, emotional and physical stress, the body secretes cortisol, which reduces healing DHEA and growth hormones hormone. Cortisol reduces IGA (immunoglobins) in all viscous membranes of the body, particularly in the gut, the role of which is to prevent proliferation of parasites , micro-organisms and fungal. Therefore, It essential to reduce all types of stress to avoid risks of leaky gut.

Leaky gut in children

In recent years there have been so many children suffering food allergies and eczema due to leaky gut. It is mainly because many children are born by C- section, instead of natural birth. And they were not breast-fed in the first four or five days of life. Natural birth allows babies to absorb billions of good germs from the mother’s birth canal. Good bacteria from mothers are needed for the children’s life long immune system. Children born by C- section are deprived of bacteria for their digestive and immune systems. At birth, the newborns have intestine permeability or leaky gut by design. However the condition disappears after two days of feeding on colostrum – mother milk secreted first few days after giving birth – which contains growth factors to tighten the gut lining. In other words, after the first few days of having colostrum, breastfed babies no longer have leaky gut.

Babies not breastfed from birth miss the natural closing of leaky gut, therefore suffer leaky gut related diseases, especially food allergies and eczema. The good news is that this leaky gut condition can be healed by taking bovine colostrum, according to new research findings and clinical trials. As this new information is new and has not been widely known, it is unfortunate that too many children still suffer food allergies and eczema.

Symptoms and signs of leaky gut

-Food allergy is the most common sign and symptom of leaky gut.

• Irritable Bowel Syndrome (constipation, diarrhea, abdominal pain) and

• Inflammatory Bowel diseases such as Crohn’s disease (diarrhea, abdominal pain, unexplained weight loss, anal bleeding, constipation, nausea, fever) and ulcerative colitis as severe leaky gut can occur in the large intestine.

• Autoimmune diseases like Lupus (when the immune system attacks the body’s tissues and organs), Multiple sclerosis (MS), type 1 diabetes, arthritis, psoriasis and ceczema.

• Thyroid disorders such as Hashimoto’s, thyroidisis, metabolic syndrome causing fatigue, depression, weight gaining, and obesity.

• Nutrient malabsorption causing deficiency in B12, magnesium and digestive enzymes.

• Brain disorders such as autism, depression, anxiety, Parkinson’s.

In addition, the following signs may relate to leaky gut:

• Gastric ulcers

• Infectious diarrhea

• Celiac disease

• Esophageal and colorectal cancer

• Allergies

• Respiratory infections

• Acute inflammation conditions (sepsis, SIRS, multiple organ failure)

• Obesity-related metabolic diseases (fatty liver, Type II diabetes, heart disease)

• Propensity towards weight gain or obesity

Natural ways to heal leaky gut

1. Remove factors that may cause damages to the gut: First we should eat slowly with thorough chewing before swallowing. Do not eat on the run. Instead sit down, relax and enjoy eating. Secondly, let your digestive system rest at least 12 hours a day for healing.

Next, stop eating: – unsprouted grains and seeds – and GMOS animal and plant products • sugar added foods • refined vegetable oils such as soybean oil, corn oil, canola oil, – chemically processed foods • Dairy products

2. Gut health supplements

Bovine or goat colostrum. Colostrum contains antimicrobial peptides, immune-regulating compounds and growth factors. It provides essential nutrients, regulates immune response, balances gut flora and improves tissue growth and healing. Clinical results confirm Colostrum’s effectiveness in healing leaky gut and related symptoms including psoriasis, acne, eczema, allergies in making skin look younger. Colostrum is available in almost every country in capsules and in powder.

Black cumin seed oil. Research and clinical trials show that black cumin seed oil can help heal leaky gut symptoms such as psoriasis, inflammation, inflammation, eczema, allergies, asthma or cough. The healing can be quick with children, but it may take 1-2 months for adults . (Please see the article black cumin seed oil). Recommended dosage is from 40 mg to 120 mg/ kg of body weight. It is better to try with small dose.

• Probiotics (approximately 50-100 billion live bacteria of CFU (colony forming unit) a day to help replenish good gut bacteria and reduce bad gut bacteria number.

• L-Glutamine-an essential amino acid supplement helps protect and heal the gut lining.

• Licorice root as extract powder or tea helps balance cortisol, improve stomach acid level and protect, heal throat mucus lining. Using 2 licorice tea bags per cup can quickly reduce reflux, bloating, abdominal pain and sticky sensation in the throat.

3. Increase in consumption of gut healing foods such as – bone or vegetable broth. It is been shown that 3-4 days of fasting with only bone or vegetable broth significantly improves autoimmune disease and leaky gut condition.

• Fermented vegetables and foods such as sauerkraut, kimchi, natto, yogurt, kombucha, fermented ginger. If you are still allergic to foods, please test each of them before consuming. These foods have lots of good gut bacteria and can replace the probiotics at a later stage of treatment.

• Coconut products-all coconut products are very good for the gut. Medium chain fatty acid in coconut oil is more easily digested than other fats and is good for the gut. Coconut yogurt or kefir is better than dairy yogurt for some people.

• Vegetables rich in soluble fiber are prebiotic, essential for nourishing and multiplying good gut bacteria: Beet root, beans, onion, garlic, apple, unripe banana, sweet potato, grain and seed sprouts, chilled cooked potatoes. It is better to start with cooked vegetables.

• Increased consumption of good fats such as egg yolks, avocados, cold pressed coconut oil, flax seed oil, wild caught fish – to a moderate level.

• Increased consumption of fruits of diverse variety with moderation daily 1-2 times, best time is the morning.

• Add ginger and turmeric in daily diet to enhance digestion including relief of bloating, reflux, and healing of intestinal and stomach lining.

4. Reduce mental, physical and emotional stress.

Breathing exercise, relaxation, mindfulness meditation, moderate physical exercise, praying, practice to be thankful, forgiving and Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) can be used effectively to release stress thus reducing cortisol and inflammation that play an important role in gut disorders.

Guide to defeating cancer

Even though thousands and thousands of people have survived cancer with changes in diet and lifestyle, cancer is still considered a death sentence in  mainstream media. As a result, most people accept it as true and make no effort to fight even before the doctors say it is too late. If they are lucky to be treated early by conventional treatment they may survive but the 5 year survival rate is very low.

Those who wan to fight cancer with natural methods on the other hand do not know where to start, what to do and what can be done. They are confused mainly because the information is so diverse.  Hearing that some herbs and some foods can cure cancer, they try to find t as many and as much as they can. But unfortunately, the result is far from what they expected.

This short guide is compiled to help you and people diagnosed with cancer defeat it with confidence.  With no more than 2 pages, the guide consists of   9 evidence based weapons any body can use. You can download it in PDF format here guide to defeating cancer

This guide can be used independently as a holistic approach to cancer or for enhancing the effectiveness of conventional cancer treatment.

1. View Cancer as a wakeup call, not a death sentence: This is the most important step. It is only a death sentence if you believe it’s a death sentence, as confirmed by physicians who treat cancer patients. Those who viewed cancer as a wake-up call on the other hand repeatedly expressed how grateful they are that they had the disease and how it transformed them and their life. Why? It is now widely known that tens of thousands new cancer cells are produced daily in every human body and the immune system is there to kill them. If the immune system is too weak to do the job properly, cancer cells accumulate and cancer results. Cancer diagnosis therefore is a wake-up call that we need to restore / strengthen the immune system to enable it to reverse the cancer development process. It is possible for every one to do so by avoiding unhealthy foods, eating healthy foods, nurturing healthy relationships, having a compassionate heart, a thankful spirit and a healthy lifestyle. We need to keep in mind that we need to address the root cause – i.e. not just to kill cancer cells but also to prevent their coming back. No drugs or doctors can cure the cancer in you. You are the only one who can free yourself from cancer by changing your diet, lifestyle and mental/emotional conditions. Once you are convinced and determined to get rid of cancer for good, the following are what you need to do:

Avoid unhealthy foods that cancer cells love, such as red meat, dairy, alcohol, high-sugar foods and processed foods including all refined vegetable oils such as canola oil, soy bean oil, sunflower oil, rice bran oil, safflower oil; artificial sweeteners, soda, and GMO foods. Excessive omega-6 to omega-3 in most vegetable oils has lead to numerous chronic inflammatory conditions and chromic illnesses including cancer.

3. Always eat a diet high in fruits and vegetables of a wide variety to boost the immune system. For those of us who want to have a clearly guided food plan during the fight against cancer, we may use the following brief summary of the food plan prescribed by Dr. Renee Wellhouse for her cancer patients in 1990s :

• Breakfast: Fruits and juices (no fats, vegetables or protein). Organic if possible.

• Lunch: Vegetables together with healthful fats such as extra virgin olive oil, coconut oil, flaxseed oil (well mixed with coconut yogurt is more beneficial) (no protein). Organic if possible.

• Dinner: Plant based Protein -such as legumes- together with vegetables (no starch or fruit) Organic if possible.

Include in your daily diet some of the following foods that have been scientifically proven to have anti-cancer nutrients such as:

• Mushrooms for protection against Breast, Stomach, Colorectal and Prostate cancers.

• Garlic for protection against Skin, Lung, Colon, and Stomach Cancers.

• Berries for protection against Skin, Bladder, Lung, Breast and Oesophageal Cancers.

• Turmeric for protection against Breast, Bowel, Stomach and Skin Cancers.

• Cabbage and crucifers for protection against Breast, Lung, Colorectal and Prostate Cancers.

• Leafy, dark green vegetables for protection against Breast, Skin, Stomach, Mouth, Pharynx and Larynx Cancers

• Legumes for protection against Mouth, Stomach, Colorectal, Breast and Prostate Cancers.

• Red grapes for protection against Skin and Breast Cancers • Walnuts for protection against Breast and Prostate Cancers

• Celery for protection against Ovarian, Pancreatic, Prostate, Breast, Liver and Lung Cancers.

• Lemon / citrus peel for protection against Skin, Ovarian, Colon, Breast, Leukaemia Cancers and cancer metastasis. Lemon peel can be taken by adding 1/2 or 1 whole organic – or well soaked non-organic – lemon to other fruit and vegetable juice.

• Coconut oil (cold pressed virgin) 2-3 tablespoons a day for protection against breast and colon cancers and as the only oil for cooking. Research has proven coconut oil has no less than 50 other benefits for health.

• Drink daily herbal teas that have anticancer property such as green tea, dandelion root tea, papaya leaf tea.

4. Specific anti-cancer protocols to speed up the healing process:

• Black cumin seed oil for protection against all types of cancers but particularly Pancreatic, and Colon cancers. Evidence based protocol is to take 1 teaspoon of black cumin oil mixed with 1/2 teaspoon of raw honey (Manuka honey is the best) half an hour before breakfast and before bed, 1 teaspoon in the afternoon mixed with the juice of one orange. (3 teaspoons of oil in total per day until cancer free and 1 teaspoon per day for maintenance). Black cumin seeds and its oil also enhance the health of kidneys, heart, liver, brain, respiratory, immune and digestive systems.

• Take 1 tablespoon flax seed oil well mixed with 2 tablespoons of cottage cheese or 3 tablespoon of coconut yogurt (ratio 1:3) 3 times a day. This mixture was well researched and used by Dr Budwig of Germany to successfully treat cancer on the basis that this substance help bring oxygen to the body cells. As cancer cells can’t thrive around oxygen, they are killed by this Budwig protocol. This protocol should continue after defeating cancer to maintain good health.

5. Release the emotional stress or negative emotions: This is critically important. Scientific studies have confirmed that negative emotions give rise to an irregular and erratic heart rhythm pattern, causing the body to function inefficiently, draining our energy and wearing out the whole system. We need to be freed from anger, frustration, anxiety, hatred, grudges, unforgiving, bitterness, regrets…. to save our body from deterioration. Carefully check and identify all the negative emotions we have harboured, specifically people who have not forgiven. Reflect on the damage/cost of holding on to them in terms of personal health, happiness and life enjoyment. Pray for strength to speak out and affirm that we forgive and to let them go. Keep on praying every day until you no longer have any negative emotions and become free of emotional stress. It greatly helps if we can find prayers and support from a professional and/or spiritual counselor; and from some loving and caring family members or friends. An EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) practitioner may help too.

6. Build up positive emotions

Positive emotions are confirmed to give rise to a coherent heart rhythm pattern, helping our body’s systems work in harmony and more efficiently to heal itself. Once we perceive cancer as a wake-up call, we probably look back to our life, reflect and reset the purpose and the meaning for our life. We may find it is best to start and end our everyday by identifying things that we should be thankful for and sincerely give thanks to God for them. Next is to pray for a heart filled with compassion, unconditional love, forgiveness, appreciation, kindness… Having support from a caring and loving family member and/or friend is also important.

7. Increase exposure to sunshine. Sun exposure is the best way to increase vitamin D. Vitamin D has proven to prevent cancer growth, growth and metastasis including prostate, rectum, breast and skin cancers.

8. Fasting 2-3 days a month or 16 hours a day  for the digestive system to rest. This will give the immune system and the detoxification system more energy and more time to clean toxins / waste from the body and to speed up the healing process.

9. Engage in light to moderate physical activities such as swimming, walking, biking, light sport 30-60 minutes 3 times a week.
